Filmy Friday: Luka Chuppi, Baby, Talaash - 5 films, which missed the Rs 100 crore club by a whisker

Since the past decade, Bollywood films have set benchmarks with box office numbers and the success of movie is often measured by that yardstick. Thanks to Aamir Khan's Ghajini, Bollywood was introduced to the Rs 100 crore club and since everyone speculates which film will enter the coveted category. Almost every Bollywood star has hit a ton in their career and megastar Salman Khan has set a separate record with 14 films which belong to Rs 100 crore club. But there is also a different league which includes those Bollywood films which missed the chance to enter this club, just by a whisker. Read on to know which movies lout out on century mark at the box office:

Luka Chuppi - Rs 94.75 crore

Kartik Aaryan emerged as the next-gen star after the grand success of Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, which hit a century at the box office. Almost after a year, the actor featured in another rom-com, Luka Chuppi, which featured him opposite Kriti Sanon. Despite getting mixed reviews from critics, the film received a massive thumbs up from the audience and resulted in a box office success. But unlike Kartik's last hit, Luka Chuppi missed the century by just a few crores.

Singh Is Bliing - Rs 90 crore

After Singh is Kinng, Akshay Kumar again donned a turban for Prabhudheva's Singh Is Bliing, which also featured Amy Jackson and Kay Kay Menon. The film opened to a thunderous start and raked in Rs 20 crore on its first day. However, Singh is Bliing failed to keep up the momentum and couldn't enter the Rs 100 crore club.

Welcome Back - Rs 97 crore

This sequel to 2007 blockbuster featured John Abraham in a key role, while Nana Patekar, Anil Kapoor, and Paresh Rawal were seen reprising in their characters. Like every sequel, Welcome Back also enjoyed a great theatrical run. But the comedy stopped earning post Rs 97 crore and lost the opportunity to hit a ton.

Baby - Rs 95.56 crore

And we have one more Akshay Kumar film in the list. Neeraj Pandey's Baby was different from Akki's previous commercial entertainers. The edge-of-the-seat espionage thriller opened to an average response but soon gained footfalls due to its riveting story. Unfortunately, the film lost out on screens, just when it was nearing the Rs 100 crore milestone.

Talaash - Rs 94 crore

Aamir Khan is known for choosing unique scripts and Talaash is definitely one of them. But the thriller did not get a festive release, like Aamir's previous films. Despite not being a commercial potboiler, Talaash worked decently well, thanks to the star power of AK, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Rani Mukerji.
