Batla House CRUSHES Manikarnika to emerge ninth-highest first week grosser of the year

Despite facing stiff competition from Akshay Kumar's Mission Mangal, John Abraham's Batla House has managed to perform well in its extended first week at the ticket windows. The cop actioner raked in Rs 65.07 crore in its first 8 days and has now emerged as the ninth-highest opening week grosser surpassing Kangana Ranaut's Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi.

Top opening week grossers of 2019

Bharat: Rs 180.05 cr [extended; 9 days]

Kabir Singh: Rs 134.42 cr [7 days]

Mission Mangal: Rs 128.16 cr [extended; 8 days]

Kesari: Rs 105.86 cr [extended; 8 days]

Gully Boy: Rs 100.30 cr [extended; 8 days]

Total Dhamaal: Rs 94.55 cr [7 days]

Super 30: Rs 75.85 crore

Uri: The Surgical Strike - Rs 71.26 crore

Batla House: Rs 65.07 crore [extended; 8 days]

Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi: Rs 61.15 crore

Actor Kranti Prakash Jha, who plays a key role in the film says that he feels blessed to be the part of Batla House. "Though my character, Adil, is negative, the feedback has been very positive. I have been getting calls and messages from friends and colleagues. One thing everyone is mentioning is my buck-teeth in the film. Some people are finding it cute and some are finding it hot," he said. "People who know I am a practitioner of non-violence are asking me how I am looking so menacing in the film. Though some of my scenes got cut due to the orders of the high court, what remains is still scaring everyone," he added referring to the Delhi High Court's green signal to the film after the producers agreed to tweak some scenes and introduce a disclaimer in the film.

In an EXCLUSIVE interaction with BollywoodLife, John recently said, "First of all, I want to thank everyone for the fantastic response that they have given to Batla House. Thanks to the audience who have accepted this film wholeheartedly and critics for being so kind to this film because I feel Batla House deserved it. Of course, we have got some Rs 15.5 to 16 cr on day 1 but it would have been Rs 2 cr more, had the prints reached out on time. Judgement from our honourable high court came till 13th (August) evening so it took us a little time to reach out. So, there was a loss of about Rs 1.5- 2 crore on day 1 but it's okay we will make up for it. But, as you said, the response from the audience has been FANTASTIC and it is a relief for me and Nikkhil."
