Filmy Friday: 5 blockbuster films that made birthday boy Mahesh Babu the 'Prince of Tollywood'

The handsome hunk of the Telugu film industry, Mahesh Babu is celebrating his 44th birthday today. If you are a movie buff and have a fair knowledge about South films, then you'd definitely know how big a name Mahesh Babu is. In fact, the star also enjoys a huge fanbase in USA as his films open to humongous numbers in this market. Due to dubbed South films on the small screens, he has garnered huge recognition in the Hindi mass belts as well. So, on his very special day, we will share with you five of his blockbuster films which made him the Prince of Tollywood.

Pokiri

The 2006 crime thriller film, featured Mahesh Babu along with Ileana D'Cruz and Prakash Raj. Directed by Puri Jagannadh, it was the highest-grossing Telugu film for three years until Magadheera surpassed it in 2009. It was later remade in Bollywood with Salman Khan in lead and it was titled Wanted, which also turned out to be a huge hit.

Bharat Ane Nenu

Directed by Koratala Siva, the film showcased the journey of a young graduate taking on the state to fight for the rights of his people. The political drama featured Mahesh Babu playing the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister. It also marked the Telugu debut of Kiara Advani and the film entered Rs 200 crore club at the global box office.

Srimanthudu

Before Bharat Ane Nenu, Mahesh and director Siva had collaborated for Srimanthudu. The film is about a multi-millionaire played by Mahesh Babu and how his life changes once he decides to adopt a village. The problems and challenges he faces thereafter forms the basic plot of the film. Also starring Shruti Haasan, Jagapathi Babu,it is currently the eighth highest Telugu grosser of all-time.

Athadu

This 2005 film made a roaring comeback of Mahesh Babu after few unsuccessful films. Directed by Trivikram Srinivas, it featured an ensemble cast of Trisha Krishnan, Sonu Sood, Sayaji Shinde, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Nassar, Prakash Raj, Sunil and Brahmanandam. It was also remade in Bollywood with Bobby Deol and Nana Patekar as Ek-The Power of One.

Maharshi

The latest blockbuster of Mahesh Babu, with director Vamshi Paidipally featured Mahesh Babu in the role of a college boy, who turns into a business tycoon and later a farmer. It is currently the third-highest Telugu grosser of all-time after the Baahubali franchise.
