Mission Mangal CRUSHES Gully Boy and Kabir Singh to emerge second-highest weekend grosser of 2019

Apart from setting huge benchmarks for the Khiladi Akshay Kumar, Mission Mangal has also shatter records of many biggies at the ticket windows. The space drama has collected Rs 97.56 crore in its extended weekend and has crushed biggies like Kabir Singh, Gully Boy, Total Dhamaal and many others to become the second-highest grosser of 2019 after Salman Khan's Bharat. Since there is no competition for the film, it will continue its dominance for the next 10 days along with John Abraham's Batla House.

Here are the top opening weekend grossers of 2019

Bharat - Rs 150.10 crore (5 Day Weekend)

Mission Mangal - Rs 97.56 crore (4 Day weekend)

Kesari - Rs 77.56 crore (4 Day Weekend)

Gully Boy - Rs 72.45 crore (4 Day Weekend)

Kabir Singh - Rs 70.83 crore

Kalank - Rs 66.03 crore (5 Day Weekend)

Total Dhamaal - Rs 62.40 crore

Super 30 - Rs 50.76 crore

Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi - Rs 42.55 Cr

Student Of The Year 2 - Rs 38.83 crore

De De Pyaar De - Rs 38.54 crore

Uri - The Surgical Strike - Rs 35.73 crore

Akshay earlier spilled the beans on how Mission Mangal happened and said, It just happened, he sketched out the story to me as I was leaving for a shoot of Kesari. I was bowled over but wondered how he would make it. We don't make science films and this one was about a space mission. But I liked it enough to tell him, "We'll make it." He began writing it with (R) Balki sir. Then, Vidya (Balan), Sonakshi (Sinha), Taapsee (Pannu) and others came on board and we wrapped up the film in 32 days. When a film finishes without issues and negativity, it's good karma."

Mission Mangal is based on the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), or the Mangalyaan project launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in November 2013, to put a space probe in planet Mars' orbit. It jointly-partnered by Pad Man helmer R Balki and is directed by Jagan Shakti. The film also stars Nithya Menen, Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Sonakshi Sinha, Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari and Sharman Joshi in key roles. Anyway, have you liked the film?
