Nerkonda Paarvai hit the screens today and has received massive applause from fans and critics. Ajith stepped into Amitabh Bachchan's powerful character for this intense drama, which is a remake of Bollywood hit Pink. Those who have seen the film are of the opinion that it is indeed a masterpiece. While fans have termed Nerkonda Paarvai as Ajith's National award-winning performance, reviewers are spreading a positive word of mouth, thanks to the stalwart actor's powerful performance. Shraddha Srinath's act is also being lauded as brilliant.
Producer Boney Kapoor is on cloud nine, stating that he has fulfilled the wish of his wife, late actor Sridevi. Here's what reviewers are saying about Nerkonda Paarvai:
Hindustan Times gave the film four stars and wrote, "As a remake, Nerkonda Paarvai gets almost everything right and couldn't have been more hard-hitting. Given Ajith's stardom, the film could've taken a more commercial route to pander to his fan base, but thankfully it doesn't tamper with the soul of the original. Despite including an action sequence for Ajith (which doesn't end up as a grouse) and a slightly odd back-story featuring Vidya Balan, Nerkonda Paarvai mostly stays faithful and credit must go to director H Vinoth for pulling off the remake convincingly and sensibly, especially when it comes to the courtroom scenes in the second half."
First Post reviewed Nerkonda Paarvai and stated, "Hats off to Ajith Kumar who has moved away from his 'action hero superstar image' to play a lawyer who is depressed and he does it convincingly. The three girls are impressive, especially Shraddha Srinath who is riveting as the brave and bold Meera. Rangraj Pandey, the news anchor, is decent for a first timer as the cantankerous lawyer, while among the boys, Arjun looks menacing. On the whole, Nerkonda Paarvai is Ajith's best movie in recent times and deserves a watch for its daring theme and presentation."
Times of India gave the film three and a half stars and stated in its review, "It's been a while since Tamil cinema has witnessed a court drama. Nerkonda Paarvai, the remake of Bollywood film, Pink, brings back the genre to Kollywood. With arresting performances of artistes and an engaging screenplay which touch upon a sensitive issue, H Vinoth manages to stay true to the original version."
India Today gave the film three and a half stars and wrote in its review, "Vinoth handles the second half of the film, which mostly takes place inside a courtroom, with the necessary respect and dignity. Without deviating from the plot or getting carried away by the stardom of Ajith, he stays true to the script of Pink. It is even more surprising to see Ajith getting a no-fuss introduction scene. He lets all his co-actors take centrestage in the first half, and completely owns the second half with his mellowed-down performance. His measured acting in Nerkonda Paarvai is easily one of the best in his career. Shraddha Srinath scores high with her realistic portrayal of the helpless yet brave Meera Krishnan. Be it the molestation scene or the scene where she breaks down after the judgment is passed, she aces her role."
