Not Priyanka Chopra but Alia Bhatt to play Gangubai Kothewali in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film?

Fans were in for a treat when Salman Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali announced a collaboration after two decades of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Like that wasn't enough, it was soon announced that Alia Bhatt has been roped opposite Salman for the first time and excitement hit the roof. But alas, all turned awry after God knows what but some fallout did happen because, amidst rumours, Salman Khan just confirmed that while the film will be made, he won't be in it! Speculations are also rife about Hrithik Roshan stepping in his shoes, if and when it happens. For now, all we know for sure that the film has been shelved for an indefinite time. While that is that, it seems like Sanjay Leela Bhansali is still keen to work with Alia Bhatt, in this film or other. In fact, it is being reported that Alia will now be seen in SLB's Gangubai. If you'd recall, the director had registered the title Gangubai with the Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA) earlier. Yes, we were under the impression that Priyanka Chopra would play female gangster Gangubai Kothewali, who was also known as the Madame of Kamathipura things now seem different. Especially, after Alia's frequent visit to Bhansali's office.

A source from the production team told mid-day, "Bhansali had committed to working with Alia and is not one to go back on his word. Owing to his creative fallout with Salman Khan and In-shaa-Allah being subsequently shelved, Alia ended up getting the raw deal. So, Sanjay is now discussing a film revolving around a brothel owner of Kamathipura, Gangubai. The film will be an adaptation of a chapter from S Husain Zaidi's Mafia Queens Of Mumbai. Currently, the discussion is in the nascent stage."

"The film was earlier offered to Priyanka Chopra, but she has her hands full with the Mindy Kaling film and The White Tiger adaptation," the source added.
