The word-of-mouth and positive reviews are finally coming in to play for Saand Ki Aankh as the film saw another upward swing at the box office its second Saturday after a steady haul on day 8, with a 50% hike in collections, bringing in Rs. 1.95 crore nett, and taking hitherto its overall numbers to a slightly respectable Rs. 15.25 crore nett. However, the Bhumi Pednekar-TaapseePannu starrer would have benefited immensely from releasing on a normal weekend as if this is the kind of sustenance it's seeing after a poor start, then imagine how better it may have run in theaters had it not have to compete with Housefull 4 and the dull pre-Diwali period. To be utterly candid, this was never a film apt for a Diwali release when families want nothing other than pure entertainment.
Saand Ki Aankh box-office collection:
Week 1: 12 cr nett
2nd Fri: 1.30 cr nett
3rd Fri: 1.95 cr nett
Total (9 days): 15.25 cr nett
On the other hand, it doesn't look like a release on another date would have made any sort of difference to Made in China as the film has crashed and burned it its second week, and should be out of theaters by the time Friday rolls in. The Rajkummar Rao-Mouni Roy-Boman Irani starrer collected a measely Rs. 30 lakh nett on day 9, after another bad day for business on its second Friday, and now stands with just Rs. 11 cr nett in its kitty.
Made in China box-office collection:
Week 1: 10.50 cr nett
2nd Fri: 20 lakh nett
3rd Fri: 30 lakh nett
Total (9 days): 11 cr nett
Saand Ki Aankh may finshi with below-average numbers at the box office, which means that it could have easily earned a mini-profit had it released on a normal weekend, even if that meant clashing with some other small or mid-budget film. Made in China though is flop. Stay tuned to BolylwoodLife for more box-office news.
