The Khiladi of Bollywood Akshay Kumar, who has entertained us in various avatars like a lawyer in Jolly LLB 2 or kickass cop in Rowdy Rathore is now essaying the character of a space scientist in his upcoming venture Mission Mangal. Earlier there were speculations that Akki is having an extended cameo in the film, while other actors like Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Nithya Menen and Sharman Joshi are portraying the central characters but a source close to the film informed Mirror that Akshay is having a full-fledged role, who plays a senior scientist, which is inspired by the group of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientists who worked on the Mars Orbiter Mission. Akshay s character puts the team together and drives them to achieve the goal. It s more of him being a mentor to the young team.
The source further added, The premise is based on true events, but the team has taken some creative liberties for cinematic purposes. The mission was successful because of the teamwork, and every character has their moment of glory in the screenplay. It is the story of an underdog team standing tall against all odds.
Akshay's Cape of Good Films has joined hands with Fox Star Studios for three films and Mission Mangal will be their first collaboration. The film is jointly-partnered by Pad Man helmer R Balki and is directed by Jagan Shakti.
