As the first half of 2019 came to an end, we looked back at the films that were made in South and saw that there were some mind-blowing stories that were told and some were commercial entertainers. In Tamil, Super Deluxe and Game Over ruled the first half of the year while Maharshi and Jersey dominated in Telugu. In Malayalam, films like Kumbalangi Nights and Athiran caught the attention of movie buffs while Kannada audience had a mixed choice. We ran a poll to see which film in the South industry was liked the most and Mahesh Babu-starrer Maharshi emerged a winner with majority of votes. Check out the results here:
Maharshi (Telugu) 77%:
This Mahesh Babu-starrer bagged most of the votes and emerged victorious in the poll. Besides the humongous box office numbers, Maharshi is also sweeping every poll on digital media. Audience seem to be in love with this commercial entertainer directed by Vamshi Paidipally.
Game Over (Tamil) 10%:
This Taapsee Pannu-starrer received much critical acclaim from audience and the percentage of votes in our poll seems contrary to it. Directed by Aswin Saravanan, Game Over is one of the biggest hits in Tamil cinema this year. With 10% of votes, Game Over stood at the third position.
Kumbalangi Nights (Malayalam) 11%:
Starring Fahadh Faasil, Shane Nigam and Soubin Shahir, Kumbalangi Nights is another masterpiece from Malayalam film industry. The film won rave reviews for its screen play and with 11% of votes, stands third in our poll.
Kalavudaari (Kannada) 2%:
Kavaludaari is one of those rare films in Indian cinema that weigh more on the story and less on the actors. Featuring Rishi and Anant Nag in strong roles, this mystery tale received great appreciation from South Indian movie buffs. With very little votes, Kavaludaari stood fourth in our poll for Best South films.
