Rakul Preet on smoking in Nagarjuna's Manmadhudu 2: Shahid Kapoor did in Kabir Singh but that doesn't mean he is promoting it

In the last week, the teaser of Rakul Preet's character was revealed by the makers of Manmadhudu 2, which created a great buzz among the makers. In the promo, Rakul was seen smoking, which didn't go well with the audience and people on the social media trolled her. In a recent interaction, when Rakul was asked about this, she said, "In Kabir Singh, Shahid Kapoor smoked cigarettes but that doesn't mean he is promoting smoking. Smoking in a film doesn't make me a smoker and I am not promoting it."

Rakul Preet further added, "Shahid Kapoor is essaying the role of Kabir Singh, who is a flawed character and he resorts to those things. In real life, Shahid Kapoor is a vegetarian. People should understand the difference between reel and real-life characters. In Manmadhudu 2, it is Avantika who smokes and it's her story."

The film is the sequel to Manmadhudu, which was released in 2002 and was directed by Vijay Bhaskar. The story of the film was about a young man who has heartbreak and vows to never deal with women in life. Filled with multiple emotions, the story of the film was laced with boundless humour. The story of Manmadhudu was penned by Trivikram Srinivas who hadn t turned to direction back then. Sonali Bendre played one of the leading ladies in the film while debutante Anshu played a brief role in the plot.

Directed by Rahul Ravindran, the film is produced under the banner of Annapurna Studios and also stars Keerthy Suresh and Samantha Akkineni in key roles. It is set to hit the screens on August 9. So, are you excited for the film? Tweet to us @bollywood_life.
