Anurag Kashyap is not a man who minces his words. This is why he has been under the radar of extremists and 'online thugs' for a long time now. In fact, his daughter and parents have faced threats as well. The Gangs of Wasseypur filmmaker has often spoken about the condition of the country's minority. Recently, he wrote an open letter to PM Narendra Modi along with 41 other celebs to raise concern over the mob lynchings that are now rampant in the country. He also tweeted in favour of the Kashmiris who were not in favour of the scrapping of Article 370. He said the motion which happened without any Kashmiri representation was not justified.
On Saturday evening, Anurag Kashyap deleted his Twitter account but before doing so put up a last tweet. He said it was pointless talking when he could not talk without fear. His last tweet said, "The tweet read, "When your parents start to get calls and your daughter gets online threats you know that no one wants to talk. There isn't going to be reason or rationale. Thugs will rule and thuggery will be the new way of life. Congratulations everyone on this new India & hope you all thrive. Wish you all the happiness and success. This would be my last tweet as I leave Twitter. When I won't be allowed to speak my mind without fear then I would rather not speak at all. Good bye. (sic)"
Very sad that Sri Anurag Kashyap deleted his Twitter. It is sad & bad for democracy when we cant voice our opinion with out fear.
I disagree with Anurag Kashyap ji on 99% of issues, but his Right to say is our Responsibility as a Nation. #AnuragKashyap .. God bless

Anurag Kashyap filed a police complaint against a troll who threatened to rape his daughter in May 2019. This happened after the election results. In another incident, a man said he had cleaned his rifle so that he could kill Kashyap when he saw him. Twitter had mixed reactions to Kashyap's decision.
