Spider-Man leaves Marvel Cinematic Universe and fans cry foul, 'Tony Stark didn’t die' for this

On Tuesday afternoon, when the speculations were rife that Spider-Man won't any longer be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, our hearts did sink, however, there was a slight hope amongst the loyal fans of MCU. That hope also died soon, when officials from Sony confirmed the development. According to the reports, Marvel Studios will no longer be involved with the production of Spider-Man movies. Due to the ongoing disputes between Sony and Marvel's parent company Disney over the sharing of revenue from the movies starring the superhero, Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios has pulled himself out of producing future movies starring the web-slinging hero.

In an exclusive statement to HollywoodReporter, a Sony spokesperson confirmed the reports stating that they are "disappointed" with Marvel president Kevin Feige no longer acting as the lead producer on the film franchise. "Much of today's news about Spider-Man has mischaracterized recent discussions about Kevin Feige's involvement in the franchise. We are disappointed, but respect Disney's decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film," the spokesperson said. The statement further read, "We hope this might change in the future, but understand that the many new responsibilities that Disney has given him including all their newly added Marvel properties do not allow time for him to work on IP they do not own. Kevin is terrific and we are grateful for his help and guidance and appreciate the path he has helped put us on, which we will continue."

Spider-Man entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe after a unique partnership was signed between Disney and Sony wherein Marvel produced the Spider-Man starring Tom Holland. This happened post Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man underperformed at the box office. The wall-crawler then went on to be part of MCU in 2016's Captain America: Civil War, Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The character also had two successful standalone films-- Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Clearly, fans are heartbroken with the latest updates. One of the fans, tweeted, "Tony Stark didn't die to let spider-man get removed for the MCU! We must save Spider-man! #SaveSpiderMan."
