Vijay Deverakonda was phenomenal in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Arjun Reddy which released in 2017. People fell short of words to describe Vijay's excellent performance as an alcoholic surgeon and lover in Arjun Reddy. Needless to say, when the filmmaker decided to remake the film in Hindi as Kabir Singh, masses had a lot of expectations from Shahid Kapoor, who was to essay the lead role. And the day Kabir Singh released, Shahid, rose above everyone's expectation and this character of Sasha is being touted as his career-best performance. However, Vijay Deverakonda aka Arjun Reddy has no plans to watch Kabir Singh.
At a recent press conference held for his upcoming film Dear Comrade, Vijay was asked if he has seen Shahid Kapoor's Kabir Singh, to which, the actor said, "Shahid has done that film, and he has gone through the character, and there is nothing for me to watch it again. I know the story, I have done that film, why will I watch again?"
Vijay went on to add that Sandeep has been requesting him to watch the film but he is not willing to change his decision. "I wanted the Hindi film (Kabir Singh) to be a big hit because Sandeep is my man. But unexpectedly, it became a blockbuster. Done. No more discussion there."
Talking about Kabir Singh, the movie is a blockbuster and one of the highest grossing films of 2019. Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer has till date minted Rs 255 crore at the box office. Similarly Arjun Reddy was a box office hit. However, both the films were criticised for toxic masculinity. Reacting to the criticism that Kabir Singh received, directed Sandeep Reddy Vanga had told Film Companion, "When you are deeply in love and deeply connected to a woman (and vice versa), if you don t have the liberty of slapping each other, then I don t see anything there. Probably they never experienced (love) in the right way."
