The film, based on Mars Orbiter Mission- India's first interplanetary expedition, earned approximately Rs 15 crore on Sunday. On Saturday, the movie saw a huge jump in collections as compared to Friday. Mission Mangal made Rs 13.32 crore on August 24, followed by approx Rs 15 crore on August 25. With this, Mission Mangal beats Akshay Kumar's last release Kesari (Rs 154 crore- lifetime collection) to become the fourth highest-grossing film of 2019 after Shahid Kapoor's Kabir Singh, Vicky Kaushal's Uri: The Surgical Strike and Salman Khan's Bharat.

Mission Mangal has done wonders at the box office however Akshay and his team never expected that the film will do the number that it has at the ticket windows. "When we were making it, writing it, lots of people had told us how much business it'll do, 'It'll go till 60-70 crore.' Because this genre is not explored, nobody knows. It was a big risk. I had no idea where this film would go, how would people react to science. It was a risk worth taking. Children are watching the film, dragging their parents who are then realizing even they didn't know what kind of things go on to send a satellite on Mars," Akshay Kumar said during a media interaction.

Jagan Shakti's Mission Mangal locked horns with Nikkhil Advani's Batla House on Independence Day (August 15) however the space film has managed to do well at BO. Have you watched Mission Mangal? Tweet to us @bollywood_life and let us know.
