After Anushka Sharma slammed Farokh Engineer for his 'ill-intended lies' and baseless remarks, the former Indian wicket-keeper has come out and tried to cover up for his statements. It all started when Engineer claimed that he saw one member India's five-member selection panel, led by MSK Prasad and comprising Sarandeep Singh and Jatin Paranjpe, Gagan Khoda and Devang Gandhi, serving to Virat Kohli's wife and actress, Anushka Sharma, during the World Cup. Following his remarks, Anushka Sharma broke her silence for once and for all. The actress penned a long note for the ones who used her name for spreading lies. "The latest version of these ill-intended lies is that I was being served tea by selectors at matches during the World Cup! I came to one game during the World Cup and sat in the family box and not the selectors box as reported but when has the truth mattered when it's about convenience!," she wrote.
A day after Anushka gave it back to him, Farokh has gone for a cover and mentioned that he said all of it in a 'jest'. In conversation with Republic TV, the 82-year-old said, "I just said it in a jest and it's being made a mountain out of a molehill. Poor Anushka has been dragged into it, she is a lovely girl. Virat Kohli is a brilliant captain and coach Ravi Shastri is extremely good. The entire matter is being blown up unnecessarily." This is what Farokh Engineer had to say after he was heavily criticised and received backlash for his statements.

Earlier, while talking to a leading daily, he had claimed, "We have got a Mickey Mouse selection committee. Virat Kohli has a major impact (in the process) which is very good. But how are the selectors qualified? Between them, have they played about 10-12 Test matches. I didn't even know one of the selectors during the World Cup and I asked him 'who the hell he was' because he was wearing the India blazer and he said he was one of the selectors. All they were doing was getting Anushka Sharma (Kohli's wife) cups of tea. I feel people with the stature of Dilip Vengsarkar should be in the selection committee."
