EXCLUSIVE! Tanishk Bagchi on recreating Sonam Kapoor's Masakali, 'Hope it doesn't backfire'

Music composer Tanishk Bagchi has his kitty full. After recreating some iconic songs like Ek Do Teen, Humma Humma, Aankh Maarey, and the recent ones like Wakhra Swag and Shehar Ki Ladki, Tanishk will use his skills to remake AR Rahman's popular track Masakali. The 2009 song which was picturised on Sonam Kapoor in Delhi 6, became an instant hit amongst the masses. 10 years later, the makers of an upcoming film Marjaavaan have chosen the song to be recreated and used in their film. And they have roped in remix star Tanishk Bagchi who will be working on the new version which is going to be a party number. The composer spoke about it for the first time in an exclusive conversation with BollywoodLife.

While confirming the reports, Tanishk said, "Yes, I'm doing Masakali." He further added, "They (the makers) wanted to recreate it (the song)." Tanishk also seemed quite skeptical on taking this responsibility on his shoulders. He said, "It's again like the Humma Humma responsibility and we hope that it doesn't backfire. I don't know how it'll be accepted."

However, that doesn't take away the fact that he is quite keen to recreate the song. "Koi aur karre usse better hai ki main hi kardu (It is better that I recreate rather than someone else doing it). It's a party number. I haven't played much with the song since it is already such a popular one. I have just added a few more groovy bits and changed the vibe a bit. I'm looking forward to it," he said.

While the original one featured Sonam Kapoor dancing with a dove on a terrace, 2019's version will feature the film's lead Sidharth Malhotra shaking a leg at a club.

Marjaavan, described as "a violent, dramatic love story" is directed by Milap Zaveri. The movie will reunite Ek Villain co-stars Ritesh Deshmukh and Sidharth Malhotra. Meanwhile, Tara Sutaria and Rakul Preet Singh play the female leads of the movie which is scheduled to release on October 2, this year.
